Trekking a Siena e Toscana con 43° Parallelo

Hiking to Botro ai Buchi

A real small canyon with walls over 20 meters high that in some points are less than 1 wide. In an interesting loop it is possible to visit two other ravines with botanical rarities. Not far away the charming ruins of Castelvecchio, hanging on an isolated crest (see trekking of the ruins). The hike has a great educational interest, mainly geological. If combined with the visit to the castle, an historical and architectonic value is added to the day. Great adventure anyway!

Just the canyon hike will take only half day. The trekking part is short and technical, on slippery stones with some small pools to wade with some trill and great fun. The whole loop with the visit to the ruins is a demanding hike that will take the whole day. Long parts in dry but slippery river bed need good balance to manage with. Basic trekking equipment. Dry shoes and socks will be left at the car. Hiking poles can be useful.
