Hiking The Cathedral's Marbles - Cornate’s Red Marble
Magnificent hike on the province-border between Siena and Grosseto, in the "Cornate and Fosini Nature Reserve". From the peculiar village of Gerfalco we will get on the top of the Cornate mountain, looking 360° around: on clear days from the Elba Island to the Apennine Mountains. During spring beautiful orchids give incredible color spots to the lawns of this countryside. The large quarries of red marble, "Persichino" , in the north-western part of this mountain, sometimes hide nice fossils. The tour will continue with a visit to the entrances of some silver mines dug in the X century by Saxons. The most courageous in the group could get inside this fascinating tunnels without any danger or technical difficulties.
