This deep white canyon reveals itself unexpectedly in the middle of the smooth and peaceful Sienese hills.
In the core of Val d'Orcia, a few kilometers away from Pienza and San Quirico, just outside of the charning village of Monticchiello, a small and apparently insignificant stream has deeply cut the rock shaping this small adventure corner. In the walls of the ravine there opens the entrance of a nice cave easy to visit with some simple precautions. The cave was for 20 years the shelter of the hermit Blessed Giovanni Benincasa, until his death in 1426. If you do this trekking in summertime you will enjoy cooling off in the pools of this small jewel. The hiking part is easy but the day will give you great fun and adventure together with interesting geological curiosities.
